Cloud Sync for API Keys

Cloud sync keeps your Tealstreet exchange API keys available on each device where you sign in. It is useful when you use both web and desktop, add a new computer, or want an easier path while Tealstreet moves infrastructure from AWS to Vultr.

Your keys are encrypted on your device before they are stored in Tealstreet's cloud sync system. Tealstreet does not receive your cloud sync password.

Keep your cloud sync password safe

The cloud sync password cannot be recovered by Tealstreet. If you forget it, you can only reset cloud sync from a device that still has the API keys locally.

What syncs

Cloud sync covers the exchange API key accounts you manage in Settings -> Accounts.

It syncs added API keys, edited API keys, removed API keys, and account metadata needed for the connected account list. It is an all-or-nothing setting for your Tealstreet user account, so every synced API key follows you to every device where you unlock cloud sync.

Cloud sync does not replace exchange-side security settings. If an exchange API key uses Tealstreet IP whitelisting, TS Network, or another allowed-IP setting, you still need to keep that whitelist current on the exchange.

Before you turn it on

  1. Make sure you are signed in to your Tealstreet V3 account.
  2. Confirm the API keys on this device are the keys you want to keep using.
  3. Choose a strong password that you can store safely in your password manager.
  4. If you are preparing for the AWS-to-Vultr migration, confirm whether your exchange API keys also need whitelist updates. Cloud sync moves the saved key entries between your devices; it does not edit exchange whitelists for you.

Turn on cloud sync

  1. Open Tealstreet.
  2. Go to Settings -> Accounts.
  3. Find Cloud sync for API keys.
  4. Turn on the Cloud sync switch.
  5. Read the confirmation and continue.
  6. Enter and confirm your cloud sync password.
  7. Confirm that you understand the password cannot be recovered.
  8. Keep the local pre-sync backup Tealstreet creates, and optionally download accounts.json if you want an additional plain-text backup.
  9. Finish the setup and wait until the status shows Up to date.

After cloud sync is on, changes usually upload automatically within a few seconds. Other unlocked devices pull updates when they load, return to the foreground, sync on the background interval, or when you click Sync now.

Protect downloaded backups

The optional accounts.json export contains API secrets in plain text. Store it securely or delete it after you no longer need it.

Use cloud sync on another device

  1. Sign in to the same Tealstreet account on the second device.
  2. Open Settings -> Accounts.
  3. Turn on Cloud sync if it is not already on.
  4. When prompted, enter the cloud sync password you created on the first device.
  5. Wait for the account list to load and confirm the expected API keys are present.

Each device unlocks once. If a browser or app storage reset removes the cached sync key, Tealstreet will ask for the cloud sync password again on that device.

Move an old cloud backup into sync

Some users have an older manual cloud backup created with Save to Cloud / Retrieve from Cloud. That backup is separate from cloud sync and is left untouched.

If Tealstreet shows Move my cloud backup to sync:

  1. Start from Tealstreet on your computer.
  2. Choose Move my cloud backup to sync.
  3. Enter the old cloud backup password.
  4. Review the API keys Tealstreet can add.
  5. Select the keys you want to move into sync.
  6. Create your new cloud sync password.
  7. Finish the migration and confirm cloud sync reaches Up to date.

You can still retrieve the old cloud backup later with its original password.

Reset or turn off cloud sync

Turning cloud sync off disables syncing across your Tealstreet account. The API keys already present on each device stay on that device, and the cloud copy is kept so you can turn sync back on later.

Use Reset cloud sync only when you need a new cloud sync password or need to replace the cloud copy. Resetting erases the synced cloud copy and publishes the API keys currently on this device with a new password. Other devices will need that new password before they can sync again.

Migration checklist

Use this checklist before changing devices, reinstalling Tealstreet, or working through the AWS-to-Vultr migration:

  1. Turn on cloud sync from a device that already has your API keys.
  2. Wait for Up to date.
  3. Unlock cloud sync on any other device you use for trading.
  4. Confirm the same exchange accounts appear on each device.
  5. Update exchange-side IP whitelists separately if your API keys use Tealstreet Network, TS Network, or allowed-IP restrictions.
  6. Keep direct access to the exchange available while making whitelist changes.

Troubleshooting

Cloud sync says Locked

Enter your cloud sync password on this device. Nothing syncs while the device is locked.

I forgot the cloud sync password

Tealstreet cannot recover it. If one of your devices still has the API keys locally, open Settings -> Accounts on that device and use Reset cloud sync to create a new password.

An API key did not connect after syncing

Cloud sync copies the saved Tealstreet API key entry. It does not change the exchange account itself. Check that the exchange API key still has the correct permissions and IP whitelist values, then reconnect or edit the key in Tealstreet.

I deleted a key on one device and it came back

If another device had not synced the delete yet, it may restore the account once. Delete it again after cloud sync is on and unlocked on your devices, then click Sync now.

My layout profiles are different

Layout profiles are managed separately from API key cloud sync. To manage layouts, open Settings -> Layout.
